Mario Mirkovich: Capturing the Luminous Beauty of Coastal California

Mario Mirkovich bridges continents and traditions, bringing his European classical training to the vibrant plein air landscape heritage of California. His impressionistic paintings translate coastline vistas, desert expanses, and Adriatic memories onto canvas with masterful color and light.

Born in a small Dalmatian fishing village on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, Mirkovich earned his degree in commercial art in Split, Croatia. This classical European education equipped him with traditional art skills, strong draftsmanship, and an expert grasp of color theory.

After immigrating to the United States in 1967 and settling in Southern California, he developed a passionate interest in oil painting. Classically educated in Europe with traditional art skills, superb draftsmanship, and expert use of color, Mirkovich has become what local arts guides describe as "a real master."
