Grif Teller's "Desert Landscape" is an evocative oil on canvas painting from circa 1965, measuring 16 by 20 inches and signed by the artist. The artwork captures the grandeur of a desert scene, dominated by a striking red rock formation under a vast sky. The warm, earthy tones of the rocks contrast beautifully with the vibrant greens of the desert flora in the foreground, creating a dynamic composition that draws the viewer's eye across the canvas. The sky, painted in soft blues and whites, adds a sense of depth and openness to the scene. Teller’s skillful use of color and texture brings the rugged beauty of the desert to life, inviting viewers to explore the intricate details of the natural landscape.

Our Curator's Notes

The following for sale is by famous railroad artist of his time Grif Teller. He lived from 1899-1993 did a long series of calendar art for the Pennsylvania railroad, which was one of the biggest transportation companies of its time. Through his renderings for the railroad, Grif became familiar with the western landscape and how to intimately express it. This is brought togeher in this artowrk in the balance between the levels of green desert cactus foliage  contrasted with the warm colors of the rocks. The sky behind the rocks with the scattered clouds create a pleasureable viewing experience that brings the viewer into this mid 1900's scene.
