In "Sunset by the Pond," Ovanes Berberian masterfully captures the serene beauty of a twilight scene using oil on a 12x16 canvas. The painting, completed in 2022, is a vibrant symphony of colors that meld together to depict the tranquil transition from day to night. The sky is a mesmerizing blend of soft purples and yellows, interspersed with the warm glow of the setting sun, casting a radiant reflection on the pond below. Surrounding the water, the landscape is composed of lush foliage rendered in rich greens and deep purples, with the warm hues of the sunset highlighting the edges of the trees and rocks. The composition draws the viewer's eye towards the horizon, where the vivid colors of the sunset meet the cool tones of the water, creating a harmonious balance. Berberian's signature is elegantly placed, marking this piece as a testament to his skill in capturing the ephemeral beauty of nature.

Our Curator's Notes

This painting depicts a sunset with a reflection on the pond near Ovanes' home in Idaho. He captures the way the colors of the setting sun attach themselves to the trees while melting into the waters of the pond.  The brushstrokes are pronounced as Ovanes uses them to  build up textures in the landscape in the foreground.
