Ovanes Berberian's "Tuscany" is an evocative oil painting from 2023, measuring 16x20 inches, that captures the serene beauty of the Italian landscape. The composition is bathed in soft, luminous colors, with shades of turquoise and azure defining the tranquil waters that stretch across the middle ground. In the foreground, lush greenery and vibrant foliage are rendered in rich, textured strokes of emerald and olive, leading the viewer's eye towards a cluster of rustic buildings with terracotta roofs, which stand out warmly against the verdant backdrop. The distant hills are softly muted, creating a sense of depth and tranquility, while the sky above is a harmonious blend of pastel blues and pinks, suggesting the gentle light of dawn or dusk. Berberian's masterful use of color and texture brings to life the idyllic charm of Tuscany, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in its picturesque landscape.

Our Curator's Notes

This unique subject matter for Ovanes was rendered in 2023 on a trip to Europe, and is captivating as the light and shadows lead the eye down the Tuscany coastline and inspire the imagination looking into the sky in the distance. There are houses in the foreground that recede into smaller homes on the hills in the distance. He also uses the colring in the distant clouds to add to the perspective and drawing the eye into the distance.
